I think you nailed it when you said that it all depends on the individual situations and the attitudes of each.  One thing I do know, if you ever have a squabble with your spouse, you can count on the in-laws being on their child&#039;s side.  Normal...

I think it&#039;s healthy to drop all expectations and just let the relationship develop over time naturally.  And immediately recognize the personality differences that might cause problems.  Understanding how to deal with unique temperments is one of the best skills to have, especially when you&#039;re talking about family.
