I find that we as Christians can be the most judgemental of all. We feel that if people aren't living the way we think they should we have the 'right' to judge and condemn them. I have found in talking with non-christians that one of the main reasons for not wanting to be a Christian is that they view us as hypocrites. They hear what we say and then they see what we do. When we judge they do not see love. They see hate and it highlights all of our imperfections. The first thing someone is going to do that feels they have been looked down upon is look at the person doing so. They will notice every little thing that we do wrong. If we offer them love instead of judgement, they see Christ instead of being turned away from Him. I feel that I am no where near perfect enough to pass judgement on to someone else even about Biblical issues because I am so far from perfect that without the blood of Christ I would be doomed to hell just like the rest of the sinners I share this world with. The only human that was perfect enough to cast judgement was Jesus and He came to save us not to condemn us. Somehow, it seems to make us feel better about our own imperfections to point a finger at others. Strange how we are wired that way. It is a battle we all face, however, as Christians we have to remember that non-believers are looking at us under a microscope and unless we have no imperfections we need to be humble and let them know we are not perfect and that all we can offer is our love and testimony of the grace only Christ can give.
Here is what I have found that the Bible says about judging others.

“Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you. Why do you see the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother's eye. Matthew 7:1-5

“Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; Luke 6:37

Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor? James 4:11-12

P.S. The Acceptance article was beautifully written and is a reality that we all need to face and be aware of the damage we can do to ourselves and others by being judgemental in any way.

Having been all over the spectrum when it comes to economic status (LOL at Erin's comment above too btw!), the only things that really bother me are people who have nothing or close to it and think the world owes them something. I was in the gutter and I rose out of it so I definitely don't wanna hear it.

Also - being a Christian, if it goes against what it taught in the Bible, I look down on it. That's all I'm gonna say.

Hmm I'd have to say that I am guilty of raising an eyebrow at what I would call trashy people. Mind you that could mean something completely different to someone else, but I can't quite put it into words. I just know it when I see it. Before even getting to know them. I'm aware of it, and yes it's a struggle to veto those thoughts when I've probably done it all my life.

At least you're actively thinking about this, awareness will surely help you in the long run.

Unfortunately for me it's pushy people, people who have to have everything there way or they raise a stink. These can even be siblings, or other people in the church you attend.
I have learned to just distance myself from these people and to just pray for them.
Yet, I have never seen any of these people change, not even one little bit. So if the Holy Spirit is working on them, they are resistant to what he's trying to do in their lives.

I've always taught the kids not to make fun of anyone because they didn't have good clothes or not enough to eat, or someone likes to tell tall tales. There is usually something on the surface they don't see, the other person may not have been taught value of what friendship is or they need to make up stories to gain friends, or the parents are out of work and can't afford good clothes or enough food to eat. So we just step back, say a little prayer for them instead of the negative teasing other kids may be doing.

Unfortunately, I look down on really bad grammar, misspellings and using the wrong words entirely. So, I discriminate more in print since I lived quite an insulated life at home.
